Horn Library Content Strategy

Media Strategy

Technological changes over the past decade have resulted in decreased usage of our physical media collection which mostly consists of DVDs.  Older formats, such as records, cassettes, and VHS had largely been replaced by DVDs.  With the popularity of streaming platforms and the fact that student laptops no longer include drives for viewing DVDs, Horn Library has moved to providing online access to feature films, documentaries, and videos through three major academic streaming platforms.  The library also purchases one-off streaming licenses or DVDs for classroom use and procures licenses with public performance rights for campus events.

A high demand for audiobooks is met through a subscription to a major, popular ebook and audiobook platform familiar to many through their public library.
