Updating Links

EZproxy vs. OpenAthens links

If you have any links to online library resources saved, in order to ensure they still work after July 31, 2025 they will need to be converted to OpenAthens links. How do you know if you need to update your links?

Old EZproxy Links:

"Athenize" Your Links with the Authenticator

  1. Use the Athenizer to create links to library content.
  2. Copy and paste a persistent link to an article, ebook, or journal here to generate a link that will authenticate you when off-campus.  *Please note, you must remove any part of the persistent link that refers to EZproxy, if present, prior to pasting it into the OpenAthens Link Generator. See above examples.

Special Cases

Note that some provider links are not Athenized. Instead, these providers use a customer id in the links to direct you to our account; just be sure these strings are in your links. Find out how to create those links below.

Special Cases: EBSCO, Gale, Kanopy, Proquest, Swank

Linking to EBSCO

To update or obtain a new persistent EBSCO URL:

  1. Find the content on Ebscohost.

  2. Click the Access Options button and select either PDF or Online full text. Copy the URL in the address bar. OR

  3. Click the Share arrow in the upper right and generate a link by clicking Create link.

Linking to GALE

Convert Gale links using the "Athenize Your Link" instructions above. For persistent URLs, use the Gale "Get Link" button.

To update a Kanopy film link or get a new persistent URL, find the film on Kanopy and copy the URL from the address bar.

To update a ProQuest link or get a new persistent URL, find the content on ProQuest and copy the URL from the address bar.

To get a persistent link to a Swank film, find the specific id number associated with the film.

From the address bar, the link will appear as below.  The film ID is highlighted in yellow.

Now place that film ID at the end of this URL, after the final slash.
