Open Athens Authentication

This guide contains information about OpenAthens, the library's authentication system for online resources.

How to Access Online Resources

Accessing Online Resources

Babson students, staff, and faculty must use their Babson login credentials to access online resources regardless of whether they are on or off campus. Users will only need to authenticate to OpenAthens once per session. An OpenAthens session stays active for up to 8 hours, unless you clear your browser cache and cookies. The authentication process will differ based on whether resources are accessed via library websites or directly from a content provider website.

Accessing online resources via library websites

When accessing online resources through the library website, users will be prompted to log in using their Babson login credentials.

Example: rbabson1@babson.edu

Accessing online resources directly from content provider websites

With OpenAthens, users can seamlessly access the library's licensed online resources directly from content provider websites, provided the content provider has enabled this feature. Though each provider's setup may vary, the following steps will guide you through the process:

  1. Locate the Sign in or Login button on the content provider's website (typically found at the top right corner of the page).
  2. If available, select OpenAthens as the sign-in method.
  3. In the Find/Search for your organisation/institution search box, type Babson College.
  4. Sign in using your Babson login credentials.
  5. You will receive a confirmation indicating "Access Provided by Babson College."
