FME Research Guide

Need some help?

Don't forget to cite where you found your secondary research! This allows your professors and peers to view your sources to verify your information or to learn more. Review the models below for examples of how to cite reports or data from IBISWorld, Statista, and Mintel Reports in APA style. Check with your professor for any preferences or requirements they have for citation in your class.

In the text/body of your assignment or report

Whenever you mention data or information from an outside source in your work, you must immediately cite where that information comes from. In APA style, this should appear as the author's last name and the year of publication in parentheses (use the publisher name as the "author" if no individual author is listed): (Author name, year)

Examples:

According to IBISWorld (Buchko, 2025), at around $6.8bn, prescription lenses make up the bulk of revenue for eyeglass retailers in the U.S.

The average price per unit (PPU) of sunglasses in the U.S. in 2025 was $30.72, and is expected to increase by around $1 in 2026 (Statista, 2025).

Gen Z rated "making a positive difference" as one of the most important goals for them as an adult, second only to making money (Takemasa, 2025).

At the end of your assignment or report

All sources cited in the text your work should also be documented at the end in a list that includes the more complete details of each source. In APA style, sources should be listed in alphabetical order (not the order they appear in your assignment), and the general format for research reports is as follows (put the publisher name first as the "author" if no individual author is listed): Author, A. (Year, Month). Report name. Publisher. URL
