Learn how to request items from other libraries as well as how to pick up articles you've requested and tracking your requests.

Requesting Items Basics

Step 1: Double Check
Before requesting an item through ILL, have you checked to see if it's available in one of Horn Library's databases? If not, please check...you might save yourself some valuable time.

Step 2: Place a Request
Log in to ILL and choose a request type under New Request:

  • Article (choose this option if you want a journal, magazine, or newspaper article)
  • Book
  • Book Chapter
  • Conference Paper
  • Patent
  • Report
  • Thesis
  • Standards Document
  • ERIC Document
  • Other (free text)

Step 3: Fill out the Form
Please fill out the form with as much detail as possible. The more information you provide, the faster we can get the item for you!

You will be notified by email when your item arrives. Approximate wait times:

  • Articles: 2 (or more) days;
  • Books: 1-2 weeks.

Step 4: Track your Status
Log in to ILL and click Outstanding Requests in the left hand menu. Click on the Transaction Number for the item you want to check and scroll down to see the tracking information.

Step 5: Pick up your Item

  • Physical items can be picked up at the Library Information Desk
  • Electronic items can be accessed through ILLiad
