Basic Search Tips

Search

  • Enter your search terms in the Free Text box. (Click Examples under the Free Text heading for suggestions on search strategies.)
  • Choose a date range. (Default is last 3 months.)
  • Select Sources Click the + to expand each category and choose options. Default is to search everything. Categories:
    • Source
    • Company
    • Subject
    • Industry
    • Region
    • Language
  • Choose to search the full article, headline, author, etc. (Default is full article.)
  • Choose sort option.
  • Click Run Search.

 

Alerts
Alerts are set up by the administrator. Current alerts include articles where Babson College is mentioned.

  • Click Alerts in the top menu.
  • Browse by Publication or Web News

 

News Pages

  • Click News Pages in the top menu.
  • Newsstand: Browse today's headlines (and back 2 weeks) by section for:
    • Wall Street Journal
    • New York Times
    • Washington Post
    • Chicago Tribune
    • L.A. Times
    • Newsweek
    • BusinessWeek
    • Barron's
    • Forbes
    • Fortune

 

Companies/Markets

  • Click Companies/Markets in the top menu.
  • Quotes: Get current or historical quotes for Stocks, Funds, Currencies, Common Market Indicators.
  • Charting: Enter a company's symbol, choose a date range and display options, and create charts.
  • Company: Get a Company Snapshot. Search by name or ticker or choose from the available list of top MA companies.
 

Advanced Search Tips

Use Boolean searching, truncation, wildcards, and proximity limiters to enhance your search.

Boolean
AND entrepreneur and team Returns articles that contain BOTH words.
OR entrepreneur or intrapreneur Returns articles that contain EITHER word.
NOT entrepreneur not intrapreneur Returns articles that contain one word but not the other.
Truncation
* entrepreneur* Returns articles that contain the root "entrepreneur" on its own and any variations: entrepreneurs, entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial, etc.
$X entrepreneur$5 Returns articles that contain the root "entrepreneur" on its own and variations of up to 5 characters after the root. (Max X = 9 characters.)
Proximity - Words in same order
wX market w2 share Returns articles where the words market and share are no more than 2 words apart and in that order. (Max X = 10)
Proximity - Words in any order
nearX market near2 share Returns articles where the words market and share are no more than 2 words apart in any order. (market share or share of the market)
At Least X
atleastX atleast5 Starbucks Returns articles where the word Starbucks appears at least 5 times.
