Graduate/Faculty Assistants

Faculty wishing to authorize a student assistant to check out library materials on their behalf should contact the library’s main information desk and request an authorization form. This form will allow your research assistant to borrow books for a semester loan and take periodicals and/or reference material out of the library for short-term loans with special permission from staff.

Privileges for Contract Researchers

Network Accounts

It is the responsibility of the hiring unit or individual to provide contract researcher or other research assistants with an appropriate network account and password, if needed. Generally network accounts for non-student individuals are established through Human Resources. The Library's Services for Visitors page contains a list of databases available without a network account.

Research Assistance

All individuals who conduct faculty and departmental research, including adjunct and occasional researchers, may consult with librarians concerning research strategies and information resources.

Electronic services

Online sources may be used for faculty research unless their use constitutes a copyright violation or is prohibited by terms of the Library’s contractual agreement with the information provider. The Horn Library web site’s instruction page includes information about restrictions for specific electronic resources.

Privileges for Faculty at Local University Libraries

If you would like to conduct research at another library, consult our online listing of local libraries privileges for applicable policies. Contact your liaison librarian to request a letter of introduction to be prepared, if needed.
